In the present I just spent a while going through the typed up version of the Island Man book, wondering whether I could edit it into something shorter and more manageable and better. I think a lot of the writing is GOOD. Also I spotted the part from this entry, 'I grow older by the day...' There is certainly a strong voice to the writing. And sometimes a strong voice can excuse some of the weaker sentences, because it is not the author writing badly, it is the narrator struggling in a very real way.
