Sunday 1st June 2008 (pp3090-7)

The writing often descends into frustrated insularity. It's difficult to tell whether this can be interpreted as the inner torment of the novel's protagonist or is it simply that of the author, which he is trying to pretend is something loftier and more fictional than it really is? Because fiction is worthier or our attention than a nobody's diary whinings.
