Monday 18th August 2008 (pp3636-45)

Went back to Dover and found my diary from 1996, when I was 11. It's full of mundane details that were special to me at the time, that were my whole life, like playing out the front, saving to buy a SNES, watching football in the evening (I always wrote down the score). This blog is the first diary of any form I have kept since around that time and oh how different it is.

She asked me to read out some of my book to her and I read out some of this entry, the part entitled 'My sore foot'. It's a comical part about when he gets really angry and kicks a tree and hurts his foot and then accidentally almost sets the island on fire. I think she liked it, when I read it out.

Sunday 17th August 2008 (pp3633-5)

So I just found out what it was yesterday that meant I didn't write anything. Indeed it was negative of me to think I was just being lazy. What actually happened is we had a gig, the Loop Festival at the Sally Bennis Theatre in Brighton. We played pretty much first on the bill. It didn't go that well. Seb Rochford was watching from the side of the stage. Then we had one of those legal synthetic joints in the courtyard and went and watched the rest of the festival: Caribou and Four Tet and some other stuff. We had decided to change our name to 'YThundred' for this gig which unsurprisingly didn't really catch on.

Eventually ended up at Leo's house and had an argument on the way home and in the middle of the day. The day after (i.e. today) was probably spent separate or at work.

Saturday 16th August 2008 (no pages written)

Only the proverbial/metaphorical Lord knows now what I did this day. Further towards the beginning of the project it would have taken a real crisis for there to be a day of no writing, but by this point it could have just been laziness or perhaps a day of rare blissful contentedness?

Friday 15th August 2008 (pp3630-2)

Generously and rather sweetly here again she filled a whole page up for me. That was her nickname for me. Don't really know why. It was a bit of an embarrassingly feminine nom, but it was sweet. She was always disappointed that I never had a name for her, but I wasn't quite comfortable with that and her pressuring me to come up with something made me even less comfortable with it.

Wednesday 13th August 2008 (pp3610-9)

There's a Zen word art thing which is quite fun a few pages in, and then a picture of Marion, who looks a bit like the girlfriend of the time.

After months on his own on an island, someone comes, a girl, it's Meredith's sister. Surely the most exciting plot twist in the whole book.
