Now I read a poem a day from a book called 'Poem for the day'. I have learnt a few of them off by heart. That's what you're supposed to do. I only learn them if I think they are worthy of taking up space in my brain, which is finite.
On Saturday 14th July 2007, I started to write a book about an island man, by writing ten pages a day. I did it for about a year and a half, more or less. This year, 2012, starting on Saturday July 14th, I'm going to scan all these pages in day by day and post them on this blog, for what it's worth.

Friday 3rd October 2008 (pp4001-5)
Forgot to mention yesterday that I reached the milestone of 4000 pages. At the top of page 4000 it says I am 35 days behind. I don't think I intended to catch up by this point. I'm not sure what I had decided to do. Just keep writing? Try and make it to two years? To 7000 pages, no matter how long it takes?
It's my then-girlfriend's handwriting on the front of the new, purple, notebook.
Thursday 2nd October 2008 (pp3991-4000)
Now in the distant future of 2013 I sit on my sofa listening to 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zeppelin, which Shaun Keaveny is playing at the close of his radio show. Marmalade on toast with an overripe banana. I didn't sleep very much but I'm ploughing through.
In the present of 2008, the writing seems to be going well. After a worrying dip in productivity, I have bounced back and maybe I will finish it. It feels good at the moment.
Wednesday 1st October 2008 (pp3978-90)
Here I was writing the Island Man narrative, coming towards the end, then suddenly I switched back to writing the play. Why? Probably because I came to a natural end of a section on the island and maybe something sprung to mind in relation to the play, so I went back, to write an intimate mundane scene between two characters, which there is something in, I think.
Tuesday 30th September 2008 (pp3968-77)
One must really shake oneself by the shoulders and force oneself to do what is best for one. It is only the lucky ones who feel the natural urge to do in the short-term that which will help them achieve what they most want to achieve in the long-term. Hence the something-a-day phenomenon. I need it to force myself to be creative. But also is it to remind myself that the days are passing, one by one, just so I don't grow old without noticing?
